Mindarie Marina

Marina > Facts & Figures

The Mindarie Marina is the largest man-made harbour in Australia and offers the boating community a world class facility with both permanent and casual pens available. The area of water within the Harbour is approximately 13.5 hectares (34 acres) with the depth varying from two to five metres.

The maximum depth of cut is 18 metres, with a harbour entrance of 50 metres next to an 800 metre breakwater.  Constructed in 1988, sixty machines were used to excavate and compact approximately 30,000 cubic metres per day.

The harbour, originally scheduled to take 38 weeks to build, was completed in just 32 weeks (eight months) an impressive effort for a project of that scale.  The first stage of the Hotel/Marina complex was completed at a cost of $34 million.  The $15 million Resort Hotel opened to the public in May 1989.

Since then the beautiful Mediterranean style Marina has undergone huge refurbishments, the latest having recently been completed in July 2006 involving the redevelopment of the boardwalk area.

The Marina provides the following facilities for the boating community:

  • Fully serviced casual and long term pens
  • Boat ramp and launching facilities
  • Diesel and ULP fuel sales
  • Fishing charters
  • Dive shops and dive courses
  • Toilet and shower facilities
